En glädjande nyhet har nått oss. Kultur- och utbildningsutskotten inom Nordiska rådet har föreslagit en särskild budget för teckenspråksnätverket som är knutet till Nordisk
Språkkoordination. Beslut tas i oktober. I ett pressmeddelande skriver den finska riksdagsledamoten Tuula Peltonen (på engelska):
”This step forwards towards the realization of the rights of the deaf is a very welcome development. It is important that the deaf persons and other sign language users in the Nordic countries better their cooperation via these concrete meetings and seminars. The sign language rights and the services available for the deaf persons differ greatly between the Nordic countries. International cooperation is also a right for the sign language users. This collaboration across the borders will further the standing of all the deaf persons and sign language users in the Nordic countries, Peltonen emphasizes.
The culture and education board decided in their meeting today to give the secretariat the task of planning a new proposal of an annual allocation of 200 000 Danish kronor for the sign language network’s annual meetings for the next five years. The proposal is that the issue will be taken forward in cooperation with the Nordic council’s welfare unit. The plan is to get the proposal approved in the meeting in Oslo in October.”
